CICs are limited companies which operate to provide a benefit to the community they serve. The purpose of a CIC is primarily one of community benefit rather than private profit. They are a sort of hybrid between a charity and a private company.
UCanPlay must be financially sustainable to keep going, but our primary motive is to provide sporting and other active opportunities for people who are struggling to find such opportunities, rather than just solely to make a profit.
Part of the ethos of UCanPlay is to "do the right thing" in whatever we do. This is over and above our primary mission of enabling access to sports and activities for the whole community.
Sometimes "the right thing" isn't always obvious, so if you think of an opportunity for us to do more, or see a way in which we can improve, please let us know.
In the meantime, these are a few of the "right things" we are doing.
Children grow quickly and often kit and boots need to be replaced just because they are too small, rather than being worn out.
We operate a boot bank and kit exchange system where boots and kit can be passed on to those needing them free of charge, rather than just sitting in a cupboard, or worse still going to landfill.
Please check our social media for any boots/kit that is currently available.
Although we are massive advocates of hydration, we are not fans of single use plastic bottles. We actively encourage the use of reusable water bottles at all of our activities. We understand however, that sometimes this is not always possible, so we ensure that all empty drink containers are recycled in the correct way.
